Meet your Board Members
President
Sean Stuart, DO, FAWM, FACEP
Commander Sean Stuart is an accomplished military medical professional with a solid educational foundation and a distinguished career in emergency medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he also commissioned through the Navy ROTC program. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009.
After completing a transitional internship at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA, CDR Stuart served as the Battalion Surgeon for the 3rd Battalion, 3d Marines from 2010 to 2013, deploying twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He played key roles in developing medical support strategies, including a combat training curriculum and tactical simulation laboratory. After his emergency medicine residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, he contributed significantly to combat trauma research.
As the MEU Surgeon for the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, CDR Stuart supported WESTPAC 18.2 and Operation Inherent Resolve. He returned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in 2019 as academic faculty, where he served in several leadership roles and was integral to the COVID-19 response efforts. His leadership in the Combat Trauma Research Group earned the Military Health System’s Team Award in 2020.
Board-certified in Emergency Medicine and an Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University, CDR Stuart is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He holds multiple military decorations, including two Meritorious Service Medals and a Navy Commendation. CDR Stuart is married to Lisa Stuart and has a daughter, Lily, and a son, Benjamin.
President Elect
Justine Stremick, MD, MPH & TM, FACEP
MAJ Justine Stremick, a native of Langdon, North Dakota, pursued her Bachelors of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in life sciences at the University of Notre Dame, where she also played volleyball. She graduated cum laude in 2009 and spent a year traveling and volunteering before attending Tulane University School of Medicine. There, she earned her Medical Doctorate and a Masters in Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Completing her emergency medicine residency as chief resident at Madigan Army, MAJ Stremick was assigned to Fort Belvoir Army Community Hospital. She distinguished herself by playing on the All-Army and All-Armed Forces Volleyball teams and was named the 2018 Female Soldier-Athlete of the Year. Her combat deployment to Afghanistan earned her a Bronze Star.
MAJ Stremick is now an Associate Program Director for the emergency medicine residency at Madigan Hospital. Active in GSACEP since 2018, she revitalized the chapter's newsletter and has held various leadership roles, including Councilor on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Public Relations Committee. She was recently elected President-elect of the chapter. At the national level, she serves on the International Committee.
Residing in the Pacific Northwest, MAJ Stremick enjoys life with her husband Warren and their two young children.
Immediate Past President
Rod Fontenette, MD, FACEP
Lt Col Rod Fontenette enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1997, initially serving as a jet engine mechanic before cross-training as a medical technician. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland University College Asian Division and received a four-year HPSP scholarship to attend LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2008.
After his emergency medicine residency at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Lt Col Fontenette completed a two-year multidisciplinary Critical Care fellowship with Indiana University Health. He then served at the University of Cincinnati’s CSTARS program as a cadre member, deploying twice as part of the Tactical Critical Care Evacuation Team.
In 2017, Lt Col Fontenette moved to Travis Air Force Base, where he became the Emergency Medicine Associate Program Director in the integrated emergency medicine residency program with UC Davis. He deployed twice more, including to the Horn of Africa and Ramstein, Germany, as a member of a Critical Care Air Transport Team.
Lt Col Fontenette is board-certified in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care and serves as an Assistant Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University.
Treasurer
Torree McGowan, MD, FACEP
Dr. Torree McGowan, MD, FACEP, is the Secretary Treasurer on the GSACEP Board of Directors. She graduated from the US Air Force Academy and completed her medical training at Oregon Health and Sciences University, followed by emergency medicine training at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Consortium. Her 12-year active duty tenure included assignments at Lackland AFB, TX; Elmendorf AFB, AK; and Travis AFB, CA. She deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
After her active duty service, Dr. McGowan moved to Central Oregon, where she and her family run a hay farm. She served for seven years in the Oregon Air National Guard, commanding the CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package with the Portland Air National Guard. She retired from military service in 2023 and continues her clinical practice with the St Charles Medical Group.
Resident Representative
Christina Kim, DO
Christina Kim was born in the Philippines to South Korean missionary parents. She grew up in various U.S. states, ultimately calling Washington home. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Elmira College in New York in 2016 and received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences - COMPNW in Oregon in 2022.
During her studies, Christina developed a passion for policy and advocacy, engaging with state representatives on patient health and wellness issues. Currently training at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Tacoma, WA, Christina also serves as the resident representative for the ACEP Washington chapter. In her role as GSACEP resident representative, she aims to advocate for her resident peers, who are the future of emergency medicine.

Christine DeForest, DO, FACEP
Commander Christine A. DeForest hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in 2005 and received her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009 through the Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program.
Starting her medical career at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, CDR DeForest completed an Internship in General Surgery and further training as a Flight Surgeon. She served with VAQ-138, deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, earning recognition as the 2013 Captain “Doc” Mattson Flight Surgeon of the Year.
After completing her Emergency Medicine residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, CDR DeForest served at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Camp Lejeune, where she led the Emergency Department and Transfer Center. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to enhance critical care transport capabilities were significant.
Currently serving as an Assistant Program Director and Simulation Director at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command San Diego, CDR DeForest is dedicated to advancing high-fidelity training and procedural competency in emergency medicine. She has deployed as a sole Emergency Medicine physician with multiple medical response teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katrina Landa, MD, FACEP
Commander Kat Landa is an Active Duty Assistant Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University and Clinical Faculty at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command, San Diego. CDR Landa has a wealth of deployment experience in various Emergency Medicine platforms.
From 2018 to 2019, she served at the NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit in Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as the Mass Casualty Director and Trauma Team Lead. She deployed again as the Officer-in-Charge of the Shock Trauma Platoon with the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command from March to October 2021. During this time, she supported OPERATION ALLIED REFUGE in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, CDR Landa is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. She resides in Oceanside, CA, with her husband, Carlos Poni. Her professional interests include prehospital trauma care, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and team performance dynamics.

Katey Osborne, MD
Katey Osborne is an Army emergency physician serving with the 1MDTF and as a staff physician at Madigan Army Medical Center, where she completed her residency training. A graduate of the Uniformed Services University, Dr. Osborne has distinguished herself as a dedicated medical professional within the military healthcare system.

Paul Roszko, MD, FAEMS, FACEP
LCDR Paul Roszko, an active-duty emergency medicine and pre-hospital/EMS physician, serves in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, he pursued residency training in emergency medicine at Brown University. He further specialized in EMS through a fellowship at the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program.
LCDR Roszko has a notable history of deployments, including a tenure at the Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He has served in several key roles at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and Walter Reed, contributing significantly to the Navy’s trauma and EMS programs. Following an interservice transfer to the US Public Health Service in 2023, he now leads telehealth technology development for inter-agency NDMS mission assignments at the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
